Leno's Twin-turbo, 8.0l Bentley Hot Rod
Jay Leno has to be the luckiest guy in the world. In his latest video, he shows what must be among the coolest custom cars in the world. He has created a twin-turbo, 8.0-liter Bentley hot rod.
He says that he wanted to make a vintage-style hot rod with some modern technology, and he goes through every aspect of the car in the video.
The big news is the 8.0-liter Bentley engine placed into a 3.0-liter Bentley body. Leno says that only 100 original Bentley 8.0-lter Bentleys exist, and he owns five of them. I assume that the engine in this car is reproduction, but given that it is Leno, you never know. He added two turbos to it and an extra radiator under the car to keep it cool. That way it looks original, but does not overheat. The gearbox is stock, but he added two modern fuel pumps, hydraulic brakes, hydraulic clutch and a fuel cell. The interior looks like an airplane with all of the added gauges to monitor the engine, turbo, water and oil temperature. However, there is no speedometer at all and the fuel gauge is not in the cockpit.
Leno estimates that the engine produces 450hp-500hp but 800lb-ft-900lb-ft of torque.
If you're interested in fascinating engineering, this is a must-see video.
