Porsche's teaser for the new 911

Porsche has released this teaser for the new 991-chassis 911. I am slightly pessimistic about this new model. I thought the 997 was a hit as soon as I saw it. It refined and modernized the classic 911 lines and was a major improvement over the 996.

This model just doesn't look quite right. It's too long and wide. The 911 is supposed to be a slightly-upmarket sports car in my mind -- just out of reach but theoretically attainable. This just appears too much of a comfy GT to me.

It also appears that the engine has been moved quite a bit forward. Notice when the rear "trunk" is opened how far forward it is and how small the access is.

Has the Cayman taken over the 911 legacy?
